China/Chinese New Year theme
February kicked off a series of celebrations wtih Valentine's Day, Carnival and Chinese New Year happenings.
We started our "visit" to China. So far, we've attempted to use chopsticks. The children were focused and diligent in their efforts to use them, it was excellent practice for their motor skills. Many of them were successful and proud of their attempts.
We painted in colors of red and gold, made Chinese lanterns to decorate our hallways for Chinese New Year.
I Invited a friend of mine, Faye Liu, who kindly shared her Chinese caligraphy writing kit with the children. They were introduced to Chinese characters and had the opportunity to try out caligraphy writing. The children expressed keen interest, facination and delight! We also wrote a 'good luck' character in the spirit of Chinese New Year.
As we approach the last week of school before our term holiday, we will be busy preparing ourselves for Carnival celebration on 20th Feb.
We are still awaiting for parent helpers to prepare our pancake snacks on Carnival Day!
We will resume exploring China theme when we return in March. In the meantime, please feel free to share any souvenirs, keepsakes or stories from China/Chinese culture that you may have. I would be glad to share them in class.
